Trips August - December 2010

Trips Programme for New Trampers

In 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 the New Plymouth Tramping Club has run a series of easy tramps (3-4 hours) and fit easy tramps (3-6 hours) on Sundays at roughly four week intervals which were open to the public ( by application). These tramps proved popular despite adverse weather conditions on some occasions. It is continuing to organize such tramps at three to four week intervals in 2010.

The tramps through to the end of 2010 will be as follows:

Sunday 15 August: Maketawa Hut
This is an easy tramp of 4 hours along the track from North Egmont to Maketawa Hut for lunch. There are excellent views of Egmont summit and the surrounding plains from the hut. The return to North Egmont may be via the continuation of the track to the base of the Puffer and down the Translator Road.

Sunday 12 September: Patuha Trig from Surrey Hill Road
This is an easy tramp of 4 to 5 hours in the Kaitake region of Mt Egmont National Park up the easy incline of the Davies Track to the Patuha Trig which has good views of the mountain and the coastline. The return after lunch will be by the same route.

Sunday 24 October: Ngatoro/Waiwhakaiho Circuit
This is a fit/easy tramp of 4 to 5 hours which will go from the Mangaoraka car park up the Ngatoro Track to North Egmont and then down the Veronica and Waiwhakaiho Tracks back to the cars.

Sunday 14 November: Kahui Hut via the Puniho Track
This is a fit/easy tramp of 5 to 6 hours up the Puniho Track to the old Round the Mountain Track and on to the Kahui Hut for lunch, returning by the same route.

Sunday 5 December: North Egmont Circuit
This is a fit/easy tramp of 5 to 6 hours From the Visitors Centre up the Razor Back round to Jacob’s Ladder, across to Tahurangi Lodge and back down the road possibly via Maketawa Hut.

These tramps will suit people wishing to give tramping a go. If you go on two and would like to participate further you can do so by joining the club for the modest sub of $20 per year.

As an alternative, if you can tramp on a Wednesday, we alternate easy and fit/easy tramps throughout the year and you would be made welcome to these.

For information on the tramps call Dave Stewart on 758 4446

Should you wish to become a member straight away, call Club Treasurer Derek Andrews on 753 9855 and you will receive a copy of our latest trips programme which gives details of our tramps for the coming quarter.
